Learning about Habitat

A habitat is a special place where a plant or animal lives. A habitat supports the basic needs or the survival needs of plants and animals (food, water, shelter, air, a place to raise its young). Both plants and animals require different amounts of space. Habitats can be big like forests or small like burrows. Think about our habitat – how big it is to us and yet there are plenty of other animals and insects that live in the same habitat as us.
